All Barriers Cleared For NDC Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries – EC Boss

The Electoral Commissioner; Jean Mensah has revealed that all legal barriers which were inhibiting the NDC polls have been cleared now. According to her, this gives them room to supervise the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries of the New Democratic Congress, NDC slated for Saturday, May 13, 2023.

This announcement was made shortly after an Accra High Court struck out its injunction against the elections in favor of Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a presidential aspirant for the upcoming polls.

The clearance was needed as the Electoral Commission had early on disentangled itself from the elections due to the High Court’s ruling. The Commission further directed the National Democratic Congress, NDC to first settle its judicial issues before proceeding to them for supervision.

What the EC says

The Electoral Commision has hinted that a total of 117 and 107 candidates are competing for seats in Accra and Kumasi respectively, and the Volta Region follows closely as the third most contested place is the Volta with 75 candidates.

It also revealed that, a total of 356,024 voters are expected at 420 voting centres with each voting centre hosting supposedly,  a maximum of 1,200 delegates.

The Electoral Commission also cautioned that a delegates list will be used at polling centres and each delegate will be required to produce a valid national voters ID issued by the EC to be able to vote.
