Attackers Of Dagbon FM’s Presenter Fined GHs 3.6K By Court

A Tamale District High Court has fined two convicted persons who recently attacked a reporter at Dagbon FM, GHs 3,600

The two accused persons, Mumuni Osman and Iddrisu Hardi were convicted on their own plea. They pleaded guilty to all four charges which were leveled against them.

A Tamale High Court on accounts of their own plea subsequently sentenced them to a fine of Three thousand, six hundred Ghana cedis units with option of a custodial sentence of 18 months in hard labour if they falter the ruling.

The High Court Judge who delivered the ruling also cautioned the convicted criminals not to repeat their misconduct.

A word of advice was also sent to presenters and guests of political shows. According to the judge, they must be cautious of their actions.

BACKSTORY

The two convicted persons who faced four counts of criminal charges including conspiracy to commit crime, wit to assault, unlawful entry and threat of death, were seen in a video harassing a reporter.

This occured on May 3, 2023 where Abubakari Saddiq Garriba, a radio presenter of Dagbon Fm was physically assaulted by the accused persons during a live broadcast.

Following a massive circulation of the video and numerous cry-outs from the public, the Ghana Police went ahead to arrest the accused criminals and subsequently prosecuted for trial in the Tamale High Court

“The Police have today, 8th May, 2023 arrested the two people who allegedly attacked Abubakari Sadiq, a presenter with the Dagbong Radio station in Tamale while he was hosting a programme at the station on 3rd May, 2023.”

“Following the attack, the Police visited the scene but the suspects had bolted. A video footage of the incident was obtained to aid the investigation,” the Ghana Police Service revealed in an issued report.
