Dr.Kwabena Duffuor Quits NDC Presidential Race

Following days of heated exchanges between him and his party; the National Democratic Congress,Dr.Kwabena Duffuor has formally announced that he has withdrawn from the presidential race.

The presidential and parliamentary primaries which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023 would have given the former governor of Bank of Ghana the chance to lead the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 general elections as Flagbearer.

Unfortunately, while making an address, Dr.Kwabena Duffuor revealed that his decision is as a result of certain irregularities that have surrounded the whole electoral process and the failure of his party leadership to properly address them.

He therefore cited that on grounds of his outlined grievances, he’d no longer partake in the upcoming elections but assured that he holds no grudge against his party leadership and delegates.

“As at this time, the party has begun distributing the ballot papers to the various regions and constituencies without our involvement.”

“I wish to reiterate my commitment to the party and grassroots, however my concerns that the party is not ready to conduct free and fair elections is evident for all of us to see”

“Taking part in such an event will be akin to knowingly drinking from a poisoned calabash. After consulting with my support base nationwide, I have been left with no choice but to withdraw as I cannot contest in an election blatantly flawed with irregularities regardless of all my effort to draw attention to the same”, Dr.Duffuor stated in his speech.

Background

For the past few days, Dr.Kwabena Duffuor and his legal team had battled the leadership of the National Democratic Congress in an Accra High Court which finally led to the court putting an injunction on the NDC elections and subsequently directing the Electoral Commission to desist from supervising it.

However, Dr Duffour withdrew the suit he had filed against the NDC and emphasized that the party leadership had rectified most of the errors that had been identified by his team.
