From Moscow to Kazan: Russia’s Groundbreaking Games of the Future

The countdown to the Games of the Future has begun with a grand launch ceremony held in Kazan and Moscow.
This international tournament aims to promote the phygital concept by combining classic sports, eSports, and technology. The Games will feature 16 disciplines that combine sports and cybersports, divided into five categories: sport, tactical, combat, technical, and Speed-Run.
One of the innovative challenges is the sport challenge, which involves athletes competing in both a video game and its physical analogue. Another challenge is the tactical challenge, where laser tag is combined with video games of the shooter and Battle Royale genres. The combat challenge requires athletes to prove their mettle in video games of the MOBA genre. The technical challenge includes drone racing and robot fights, while the Speed-Run challenge consists of speed games and the Phygital Super Final.
The Games of the Future is set to take place from February 23 to March 2, 2024, and will bring together approximately 2,000 participants with a total prize fund of $25 million. The event is expected to have over 150 million viewers on streaming platforms.
The launch of the countdown was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko and Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. Chernyshenko emphasized that the Games of the Future is not just about sports, but also about science, education, technology, and sports, which is essential for the harmonious development of individuals. He also stated that over 50 countries have expressed their interest in participating in the Games, with athletes from 15 countries already competing in the Phygital Games organized prior to the main tournament.
To prepare for the Games of the Future, Kazan is hosting a series of competitions called the Phygital Games, showcasing phygital sports. The upcoming events include phygital football and tactical combat games in May 15-19, 2023, as well as phygital hockey competitions in June. Each Phygital Games tournament has its own prize pool and will be livestreamed and available worldwide.
