Ghana Black Stars Sets World Cup Record

The average age of the players called to the senior national team for the world Cup has been the youngest in history for the fourth consecutive year.

Ghana had the youngest squad at the 2006 World Cup (age 23). Ghana had the youngest squad (average age of 24) at the 2010 World Cup. Ghana had the youngest squad (average age of 24.9) at the 2014 World Cup. Ghana has Qatar’s youngest squad at the 2022 World Cup with an average age of 24.7.

Danlad Ibrahim of Asante Kotoko has been officially added to Ghana’s final World Cup roster for the tournament in Qatar in 2022.

The 19-year-old is one of the team’s two homegrown players and one of Ghana’s youngest players. He wasn’t initially anticipated to play, but Jojo Wollacott’s injury to the Charlton Athletic goalie seems to have helped him.

Salis Abdul Samed, a 22-year-old midfielder who has been a regular for Racing Lens this season as they have climbed to second in the French Ligue 1 rankings, received his first call-up as well.

The 22-year-old Kamal Sowah has been called up to the Ghana World Cup squad due to his performance for Club Brugge in the Champions League.
