Ketu South Municipal Hospital Seeks Refurbishment and Completion of Pediatric Emergency Unit
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South Constituency, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has appealed to stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to support the refurbishment of some units of the Ketu South Municipal hospital to give it a facelift.
During a working visit to the facility to inspect the progress of work on the Pediatric Emergency Unit, Madam Gomashie noted that the current state of health delivery in the Municipality was at a record low. She attributed the poor state of health delivery to the unavailability of adequate health infrastructure to cater to the huge population, especially in Aflao, a cosmopolitan area due to its strategic location as a border town.
Madam Gomashie called for strong collaboration between the management of the hospital and the Municipal Health Directorate in educating the general public on issues of public health to avoid preventable diseases. Dr Alphonse Makafui Dzakpasu, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, praised the MP for her continuous support towards quality health delivery in the municipality and called on other stakeholders to emulate her efforts to get the project completed on time.
The Pediatric Emergency Unit project, which is spearheaded by Madam Gomashie, is currently at the lintel level. When completed, the project will have enough space to accommodate up to 10 baby cots and two beds, a nurse station, a staff changing room, a staff locker room, a staff bathroom, patient bath, and washrooms among others. Dr Dzakpasu expressed confidence that with additional support and funding, the project can be completed and ready for use by the end of 2023.
For the most part, the successful completion of the Pediatric Emergency Unit project will enhance the operations of the hospital, especially in the management of both adults and children, as managing adults and children in the same unit is not the best practice. The project will help to reduce congestion in the hospital and improve the quality of health care provided.
In conclusion, Madam Gomashie’s efforts towards the completion of the Pediatric Emergency Unit project and the refurbishment of some units of the Ketu South Municipal hospital deserve commendation. It is essential that stakeholders and well-meaning individuals support her efforts to improve health delivery in the municipality.
