Newmont Africa and Otumfuo Foundation Launch GHC 1.71m ICT Education Projects

Newmont Africa has taken a significant step towards enhancing education opportunities for less-resourced communities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.

The partnership aims to implement two crucial education-focused projects over a three-year period, with a total investment of GHC 1,710,000.00.

These projects will focus on promoting and extending information communication technology (ICT) education and training to underserved areas, empowering young minds with vital skills for the future. The initiatives will provide essential infrastructure, materials, and resources to foster ICT education in these communities.

One of the key objectives is to improve the reading culture among pupils in these areas, nurturing a love for learning and knowledge. Additionally, the projects will work towards building the interest and capacity of students in ICT, equipping them with valuable digital skills to succeed in a technology-driven world.

The collaboration between Newmont Africa and the Otumfuo Foundation will see the remodelling and furnishing of six 50-person capacity containers, strategically placed in selected schools. These containers will serve as dedicated spaces for ICT training and learning, facilitating hands-on experiences for students.

Furthermore, mobile training camps equipped with computers will be set up in schools, providing additional resources to empower pupils in ICT. This approach aims to ensure that the benefits of modern technology and digital education reach even the most remote and disadvantaged communities.

By investing in these education-focused projects, Newmont Africa and the Otumfuo Foundation are taking concrete steps to bridge the digital divide and provide equal opportunities for all children, irrespective of their background or location.

Through this collaborative effort, young learners will have access to a more comprehensive and inclusive education, preparing them for a brighter and more promising future. The impact of these initiatives is expected to be far-reaching, contributing to the development and growth of these communities.

Newmont Africa’s commitment to advancing education and empowering communities aligns with its vision to make a positive and sustainable difference in society. By joining forces with the Otumfuo Foundation, the company demonstrates its dedication to creating lasting impact and fostering a culture of learning and innovation.

The MoU marks the beginning of a transformative journey in education, and both Newmont Africa and the Otumfuo Foundation are poised to leave a lasting legacy in the lives of the young generation, helping them to thrive and succeed in the digital age.
